The
heart or the spirit of a man is the source of our life. It is the
centre of our being. If the spirit is damaged, wounded or
corrupted in any way, (and the Bible says it can be) our
ability to relate normally to others, to ourselves and to
God is hampered because of a wounded spirit / emotionally broken. Jesus came to heal broken hearts.
"Keep
and guard your heart with all vigilance and above all that
you guard (your heart), for out of it flows the springs
of life." (Proverbs 4:23)
Jesus
said in Luke 4:18-19, Jesus quotes Isaiah, "The Spirit
of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to preach
the gospel to the poor; he has sent me to heal the brokenhearted,
to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of
sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,
to preach the acceptable year of the Lord."Jesus came to mend broken hearts (wounded spirit).
A
person with a broken heart lives in inner misery
that focuses regularly on his injuries
or pain cannot receive the cleansing. Usually
there is unforgiveness and self-pity and self-pity is the super glue that holds you
to the pain of your past. It keeps you a prisoner to your inner misery. It is hard to move forward in life when you are stuck in the past in pain and misery. Through God's Power, He can heal your wounded spirit and set you on a course to be free to be what God wants you to be with purpose and calling. The demonic spirits want to hold you back to your calling and purpose.
Have
you met people that no matter how hard they try to walk,
they seem to fall or one day have faith and the next not
but have doubt and unbelief? That’s because they have
a broken heart and cannot stand. You can tell them to stand
on the word, quote promises but they cannot. That is because
they have a broken heart! Jesus heals and came to heal a broken heart by taking your pain.
Someone
with a wounded heart, their pain and hurt never goes away!
Time will not bring complete healing to them. Whenever you
remember the experience, you feel the hurt. Some people
will even block out their memory so that they won't have
to face feeling the hurts, but they are still there.
Symptoms
Of A Broken Heart:
Physical
Sickness - Proverbs 17:22 - "A
merry heart does well like a medicine but a broken spirit
dries the bones." As a merry heart does well like a medicine
but a broken spirit compromises and represses the immune system producing all types of disease.
Guilt is a feeling of responsibility or remorse for some offense, crime, wrong, etc., whether real or imagined." Guilt is that nagging voice within us all that bring us to a realization that there is a standard and we have fallen short, but whose standard is it? Maybe you've gone through a divorce and feel responsible for the marriage gone bad. Ps. 38:4-10.
There
is a close association between unresolved guilt and shame, heaviness producing physical
& spiritual sickness (body, soul and spirit) but Jesus came to mend broken hearts.
"My
guilt has overwhelmed me like a burden too heavy to bear.
My wounds fester...I am bowed down and brought very low...there
is no health in my body...even the light has gone from my
eyes" Psalm 38:4-10.
Unkind
Words that just hurt so deep
Verbal abuse: The
old saying; "Sticks and stones may break my bones but words
will never hurt me" is a dangerous lie. Words have spiritual
values. They can create life in our spirit or they can produce
death - cruel words crush the soul and wounds the spirit of a person.
"The
tongue has the power of life and death" - Proverbs 18:21.
"A
lying tongue hates those it wounds and crushes, and a
flattering mouth works ruin" - Proverbs 26:28.
"The
tongue that brings healing is a tree of life but a deceitful
tongue crushes the spirit" - Proverbs 15:4.
If a child hears cruel words that she is “bad” or “lazy” or “stupid”, she believes it. Cruel words damage them and later grow up and turn to alcohol or food or drugs or sex or shopping or gambling to numb themselves to feelings. A broken spirit (broken heart) is much harder to heal than a broken bone. So many of us carry these invisible scars that bring us untold pain. How about you!
Abuse
Abuse
takes on three forms: verbal, physical, spiritual, emotional and sexual abuse - false accusations, betrayals, satanic attack, divorce, rejection from leaders creates a broken heart producing Invisible Wounds That Scar the Soul...
Betrayal breaks trust and is like a knife piercing your heart - it literally takes your breath away. The definition of betrayal (or backstabbing) is the breaking or violation of a presumptive social contract, trust, or confidence that produces moral and psychological conflict within a relationship amongst individuals. Betrayal trauma has symptoms similar to post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) , although the element of amnesia and dissociation is likely to be greater. Betrayal goes deep producing a broken heart but opens the door of distrust creating Inner
walls built keeping people out.
Note, dissociation is produced from extreme traumatic events before the age of seven (7).
Watching physical
violence on television or growing up and witnessing violence opens the door to a spirit of fear - nightmares, mental torment, anxiety - producing a broken heart.
According to American Psychological Association, "an average twelve-year- old has seen 8,000 murders and 100,000 acts of violence on network television”.
"...the
unfaithful have a craving for violence" - Proverbs 13:2.
Sexual abuse can emotionally damage people for their whole lives producing a broken spriit. To those who have experienced such darkness, God can bring healing and hope. In Samuel
the story is told how Amnon, the son of David, became infatuated
with his half-sister Tamar and raped her. In spite of her
protestations, her brother, Absalom, convinced her to conceal
the assault.
"And
Tamar lived in her brother Absalom's house, a desolate
woman" - 2 Samuel 13:20.
In
times of abuse there is a great need for support healing broken heart(s). If this
is not forthcoming there is a strong sense of isolation.
Without this support those, who are not at fault, frequently
end up blaming themselves and languish in the guilt, shame and self-pity which
rightfully belongs to others.
Sorrow
Sorrow
or heartache are damaging emotions contributing to producing a broken heart but Jesus came to heal a broken heart.
"A
happy heart makes the face cheerful, but heartache (sorrow
KJV) crushes the spirit" - Proverbs 15:13.
Heartbreak
is frequently the end product of an unfulfilled desire or
craving, the outcome of unrealistic expectations, where
another person or some material pursuit is worshipped or
idolized. It can also be the result of an inability to forgive
and let go of those who have sinned against us.
"So
also my heavenly Father will deal with every one of you
if you do not freely forgive your brother from your heart
his offences" - Matthew 18:35.
A
wounded heart (wounded spirit) is like a big sore risen just waiting for
someone to prick it with a sharp word, then out comes all
the corruption of unforgiveness, resentment, retaliation,
anger/wrath, hatred, violence, murder with the tongue, fear
and rejection of others, self and even God. A broken heart compromises the immune system producing disease.
Other
people respond by immediately striking back trying to balance
their hurt with anger and revenge or by trying to protect
themselves from further hurt to allow time for healing.
However, scar tissue (hardness of heart) soon appear. As
they enter into relationships, they are rejected for their
hardness and receive more hurts.
A
wounded heart that doesn't receive healing is an open door
for evil spirits. Ephesians 4:26-27, I Peter 5:8, Genesis
4:4-7, Matthew 18:21-35.
There is hope! Jesus said we would do greater works than
he according to John 14:12 "Verily, verily, I say
unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall
he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because
I go unto my Father."Journey2Wholeness ministry is about restoring lives to be free to be what God wants you to be.
